The Watch Case - Each oyster watch case is crafted from a solid block of stainless steel, 18 karat (750) gold or platinum. This stage alone requires no less than 150 operations. Once completed, each case receives it's own unique Rolex serial number.
The Crystal - Cut from a block of synthetic sapphire, the crystal is incredibly hard and virtually scratch proof. The cyclops lens magnifies the date two and a half times to make it easily visible.
The Winding Crown - The "Twinlock" winding crown confers double protection against water and dust. This ingenious device screws down onto the case as securely as the hatch of a submarine. All diving watches are fitted with a "Triplock" crown, which provides and even higher degree of protection to meet the requirements of deep-sea exploration.
The Movement - Rolex engineers create the oyster movement with the aid of high performance computers. Each of the 220 components are individually crafted, then assembled. Quality control procedures are carried out at every stage with the help of an impressive array of robots, microscopes and lasers.
The Perpetual Rotor - The rotor pivots freely on a central axis and trasmits energy with the slightest movement of the wearers wrist. This ensures continued running without the need for hand winding.
The Oyster Quartz - The oyster with a quartz movement meets exactly the same high quality specifications as it's mechanical Rolex counterpart. In the magnetic fields to which we are exposed today the oyster quartz is resistant to an intensity of 80,000 a/m. The watch case fitted with the "Twinlock" screw down crown, is waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet).
The Red Seal - Every individual rolex oyster chronometer is tested by the Contrôl Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (C.O.S.C.). For 15 days and nights each movement undergoes stringent tests in five different positions under rapidly changing temperature conditions. The red seal and the inscription "Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" on the watch face show that your oyster has successfully passed these rigirous examinations and authneticate it's exceptional reliability.
Calender - The oyster collection includes several Day-Date models which in addition to the date also show the day of the week spelt out in full in 26 different languages.
